The Ultimate has been in operation, as a tattoo & piercing studio, since 2002. Throughout its life, the studio has employed some of the Rochester area’s top tattoo artists and piercers. The studio is owned by Elizabeth Wise, RN, the studio’s head piercer who brings her experience as a registered nurse, into every piercing that she does, as well as the day to day operations of The Ultimate. Ensuring that every procedure, whether it be piercing, or tattooing is done in the cleanest and safest manner, putting the client’s health at the forefront.

The tattoo artists of the studio are headed up by veteran tattooist, Shawn Conn. Shawn, the son of a registered nurse himself, has been tattooing since 1991 and has amassed numerous awards for his tattoo work, inclusion in several tattoo publications and an outstanding reputation in the Rochester tattoo scene. All of the experienced and talented artists employed at The Ultimate, past and present, have either been apprenticed by Shawn, or vetted by him to guarantee the best possible tattoo experience for The Ultimate tattoo clients.

After attending RIT for art and serving in the US Army, Shawn began tattooing in 1991 apprenticing under Todd "Bare" Barry and Doc Yager. Besides being in demand for his highly detailed black & grey work and pop culture portraits, Shawn specializes in blending realism with abstract in his tattoo work, creating dynamic tattoos that go beyond the traditional definition of what a tattoo is. Shawn is also an accomplished fine artist, exhibiting in several galleries throughout the United States with his paintings in numerous private collections.

​Sue has been tattooing at The Ultimate for 15 years, as of 2019. She specializes in a number of different tattoo styles: She enjoys tattooing the popular watercolor style, as well as, black & grey, realism, Polynesian tribal and covering up difficult tattoos. She has become well known for her vibrant floral tattoos and her use of color theory in her tattoo work. Sue attended RIT at the School for American Craftsmen, studying metal working and fine art. After 2 years at RIT, she traveled to and lived for several years in Maui, Hawaii, where she learned to tattoo.

​Amanda began her tattoo career starting out on a self taught path before finishing up her learning at a professional shop. She specializes in script, traditional, and bold tattoos. She has a love for floral designs - especially birth flowers. While Amanda gravitates towards blackwork, she's always excited to bring vibrant, colorful pieces to life. She's proud to offer a friendly and welcoming environment where clients can feel comfortable expressing their ideas and walking away with a tattoo they truly love.

Elizabeth Wise RN started The Ultimate in June 2002 after a 25 year career in Oncology Nursing at the University of Rochester. Initially focusing on body jewelry sales in collaboration with talented Piercers & Artists, she developed a love of Body Piercing. A solid comfort level with needles & a focus on health & safety in this industry facilitated her successful transition to becoming a Body Piercer in 2005.

Kristen started working as a counter person when The Ultimate first opened its doors in 2002. She became a fixture at the shop, quickly learning the workings of a tattoo and piercing studio. In 2007, she apprenticed to become a body piercer and being the daughter of a nurse, The Ultimate's owner, Elizabeth, she has a high standard for safety and competency when performing her duties as a body piercer.

Tony joined The Ultimate as our Counter Person in mid 2021. His excellent customer service skills, kind nature and grasp of studio operations are contributing to his success as a piercer. He is an enthusiastic learner, passionate about body piercing and music.

Jamie joined The Ultimate as a counter person in January 2025. With a passion for working with jewelry and helping clients feel their best, they take pride in creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who visits. Outside of work, they enjoy music production, gaming, trying new foods, and traveling to new places.
